Special accolade for Remembering the War Dead

In 2009, UCD historian Fergus D’Arcy was presented with a special award by the judging panel of the Ewart-Biggs Memorial Award for his book Remembering the War Dead.

This accolade was due to the book’s ‘powerful and judicious’ exploration of how the Irish State and people have remembered their war dead.

The Christopher Ewart-Biggs Memorial Prize is awarded to a book, a play or a piece of journalism that best promotes peace and reconciliation in Ireland, a greater understanding between the peoples of Britain and Ireland, or closer co-operation between partners of the European Community.

You can read more on the UCD website and browse the past winners on the Ewart-Biggs Memorial Prize website (Remembering the War Dead is listed under the 2007-2008 winners).
